Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Although power has been temporarily restored, we have been advised the power may continue to be intermittent throughout the day. Following advice from Weston Power, and as the school buses are already on route the safest and most effective outcome is to continue with the planned school closure.
School buses and stagecoach buses will collect from school at 10.30am.
If pupils can’t be collected, or we don’t have consent for early closure, we will supervise them in school until the end of the school day.
Due to an ongoing power outage we are preparing to close the school to ensure the safety of our pupils.
We are in contact with the bus companies to clarify plans and timings accordingly. We will confirm the time of pupil departures dependent on their travel arrangements, once confirmed.
Please ensure you are monitoring parentmail as this will be our main method of communication.
All eligible families have now been sent Free School Meal vouchers via ParentMail. These vouchers cover the Christmas period, and February half term. If you don't receive your voucher, or have problems, please contact GTS reception or email admin@gts.devon.sch.uk
Dear Parents/Carers,
I wanted to make you aware of the latest update we have received from Devon & Cornwall Police in relation to Tuesday's incident outside the school premises.
They have informed us this morning that a 14-year-old boy from North Devon has been arrested on suspicion of sending by a public communication network an offensive/indecent/obscene or menacing message.
He has been released on police bail.
Because an arrest has been made, I’m afraid we are not able to expand any further on this.
You may see media reports that the boy who has been arrested is also facing additional charges of alleged common assault and criminal damage. However, I can confirm that these are not related to the incident outside the school grounds on Tuesday.
Once again, I would like to reassure all parents and pupils that all appropriate measures have been taken to keep all within our school community safe and lessons are continuing as normal.
Dear Parents/Carers,
I would like to reassure you that the safety of our pupils is of paramount importance at our school.
Yesterday's partial lockdown and attendance by Police was a precautionary measure, following a report of a potential external risk posed by two teenage boys outside the school. However, please let me be clear, there were no issues within the school grounds.
All pupils and staff were safe, with lessons continuing as normal. That remains the case, with the perimeter of the school locked throughout the school day as usual.
We have spoken to all pupils to remind them that our school is a safe space for them, and we would like to thank all pupils and staff again for how they conducted themselves during this matter.
We are continuing to work with Devon & Cornwall Police while they carry out their investigation, and while this is ongoing, we cannot add anything further.
We would like to thank the Police officers for providing a reassuring presence yesterday and again today.
You may have heard from unofficial channels that the school has been dealing with an external risk. I am writing to advise you that all pupils and staff are safe. We did enact a partial lockdown, and pupils continued their lessons as normal. The Police are in attendance, and we will continue to work with them to ensure all pupils and staff remain safe.
Please do not contact the school directly as that impedes our ability to communicate effectively. If there are any further updates it will be via Parentmail, please only consider this as a valid source of information.
School is open as normal today, though are aware some areas may be more effected by localised snow. We will update the website if there are any changes.
Please see our Open Events page for the latest dates and information relating to this years Open Mornings and Open Evening.
Despite the national downward adjustments in gradings we are proud to have maintained the number of passes in English and Maths, ensuring that very few pupils will need to go on and do retakes. Once again, results were significantly above the national pass rate at Grade 4 and above, across all GCSES.
It was particularly pleasing to be able to recognise the holistic nature of provision at GTS as we celebrated the first ever pupils achieving a Diploma in the Princes Trust Award as well as the ten top pupils who achieved Grade 9s across a range of subjects.
Results in Modern Foreign Languages reflected the commitment of the pupils and staff over the past few years with over three quarters of pupils achieving Grades 5 and above in either French or Spanish.
The vast majority of pupils achieved or exceeded their targets and were extremely positive about their individual successes. On behalf of all the staff at GTS we would like to wish the Year 11 family of 2024 the very best in the future; we are proud of you all and are confident you are going to develop into fine young adults.
On Friday 12th July at 6.30pm, the sun suddenly appeared and bathed Rosemoor in glorious light - just in time for the GTS Year 11 Prom!
It was a delight to witness the pupils arrive in a stunning array of vehicles (limos, campers - and tractors of course!) and they looked gorgeous, dressed up to the nines in their prom attire.
After a personal welcome from Mr Bloodworth, we gathered for group photographs on the lawn, before heading in for a beautiful evening of food, awards and dancing!
The pupils were an absolute credit to GTS and the Torrington community, conducting themselves with grace and maturity. A fantastic send off for a fantastic year group, who we will truly miss.
