  • North Devon Schools Summer Chess Tournament

    Mon 11 Jul 2022

It’s been a busy term and this week we hosted the return of the North Devon Schools Summer Chess Tournament and welcomed teams from Park, South Molton and Braunton school.

Mr Stanier was very impressed by all the GTS players and the sportsmanship throughout the event, especially when the pressure started to rise, and GTS A and Park A were equally tied after five rounds. Then there was a tense 2-minute blitz tie-break that ended 2-2. It was decided by the result on the top board, which Park narrowly won.

It was an amazing event and an exciting competition to have towards the end of term. We had a wide range of pupils taking part from Year 7 to Year 10.

    Fri 08 Jul 2022

Well done to over 200 Key stage 1 pupils and 50 GTS young leaders who took part and led the very last festival of the year yesterday. There were some fantastic performances and loads fun had by all in the different activities. The leaders made the most of experiencing this leadership opportunity and were confident and encouraging throughout.

Thank you to all the Great Torrington Learning Community schools for their participation in what has been another successful sporting year. Not forgetting, all the young leaders who have led and represented GTS on many occasions this year... Well done!

We are looking forward to the next academic year.
