International Music Festival

Two inspirational GTS teachers, Mrs Annie Sparrow and Mr Simon Robilliard, will be heading off to Seoul, South Korea, with the North Devon Sinfonia, to represent the UK at the Seoul International Community Festival.

The trip follows on from last year’s BBC TV competition, All Together Now: The Great Orchestra Challenge, which featured people from all over North Devon and our very own Music Teacher, Mr Robilliard.  Their prize for wining was an opportunity to play at the Proms in the Park.  It was a very inspirational series to watch.  If you missed the opportunity to watch the four episodes, you can catch up with it on BBC iPlayer.

Since finding out that they were going to Seoul, both have been busy fundraising for the trip and are very grateful for the support that they have received from sponsors and individuals that have generously supported fundraising events and sent donations.

Mrs Sparrow has not only helped raise money for the Seoul trip, but also helped raise money at the same time for her own local band, the Torrington Silver Band, that she regularly plays the Euphonium for.

Mrs Sparrow said, “The band has been a source of leisure and entertainment for generations of Torrington and it is very actively involved in so many community events, but our band was desperately in need of some serious money”.  Mrs Sparrow has put her heart and soul into fundraising this summer and is a fine example of how to achieve your dreams.

We wish you both lots of energy and good luck for your trip to Seoul.
