Sports Day 2019

Posted on: 16/07/2019

Cloud and a slight drizzle for the first day in several months, it must be Sports Day! Fortunately the weather gods took pity and it turned into a wonderful sunny day for GTS.

Enjoyed by students and staff alike all proudly sporting their house colours, the day had an excellent atmosphere of competition doused with healthy respect for the opposition.

The students who took part demonstrated fantastic resilience and the enthusiasm to compete for their respective Houses which was both infectious and commendable. The morning saw all pupils taking part in a variety of team games followed by the ever popular tug of war on the hallowed ground that is the GTS sporting amphitheatre of power…… the old bus circle. The cheering was heard by most of Torrington, fabulous.

Come the afternoon, students had the opportunity to challenge the existing track and field sports day records, some of which have been held since the 1990's! This year students didn't disappoint and in total, five school records were broken.

Huge congratulations to all of our record breakers!

As always, the day could not run without the hard work and dedication of the entire school staff, to whom we say a massive thank you. Special thanks also goes to all the additional people who offer their time and effort to ensure the smooth running of the events - Seth Hodorowski, Adrian Avery and the Year 11 students who came back in to help, to name but a few.

On a sour note, sadly the staff relay teams were pipped yet again by the returning year 11s for the 12th year in a row. A note to year 10, the staff are already training for next years’ event, next year is our year!

The Sports Day winner will be announced on the last day of term in the final assembly. Please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates.
