Outstanding amount raised by Endeavour students

Congratulations on raising an extraordinary amount for Mr O’Donnell’s chosen charity Amyloidosis Research. £1150 was raised by a non-school uniform and a cake sale. Well done!

Rotary Competitions

We have a wonderful history of pupils entering Great Torrington Rotary Club’s competitions. Many of which go on to enjoy success at Local, District and few to National finals. All entries are considered for reward points.

Young Writer Competition - Theme

The task:
To produce a written or typed story in prose entitled, ‘Connections’. The written entry could be fiction or nonfiction, a story or a poem, as long as the piece relates to the theme.

“Connections”

A piece of work of around 500 hundred words or one side of A4 would be a suitable length of submission.

Entrants to be handed into Mrs Leonard by Monday 11th November (Breaktime) Judge: Mrs G Clayton.

 

Young Photographer

Express yourself by putting your photography skills to the test at the annual Rotary Young Photographer competition. Entrants are required to produce a portfolio of 3 photographs based on the theme “Through My Eyes”. Local heat deadline is Friday 15th November, 9am and the photos and an application form (available from Resources or Mrs Leonard) will need to be submitted to Mrs Leonard lleonard@gts.devon.sch.uk

 

Calling all Young Artists

An opportunity to express yourself with an interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Through my eyes’, and submit a two dimensional piece of artwork,. Art work will be on display at initial local round Tuesday 19th November and the winning artwork will then proceed to district heat.
The competition is open to artists aged between 7 and 17.
Objectives: This competition aims to encourage young people to:

  • Express their ideas through any artistic medium other than photography

  • Interpret a given theme

  • Use artistic skill, imagination and creativity

Entries: Entries should be preferably no larger than A2 size, but must be easily transportable.
Any media is acceptable, including ceramics and other art forms excepting Photographs
Entries will be judged on

  • Imagination and style

  • Content and composition

  • Inspiration

Artwork will not be returned unless specifically requested, but winners’ entries will be retained for display at the Volunteer Expo at the beginning of May 2020.

Deadline for entries: Friday 15th November 2019, Break time

 

Young Chef Competition

Local round will be held on Thursday 14th November. Please see Mr Anderson if you are interested in participating. Limited spaces available. Winner will go onto area final on 10th December at Petroc College.

Age is at 31st August 2019.

One entry for each category from thelocal club round will be eligible to go forward to the Rotary District round.

 

Youth Speaks - A Debate

If you are interested in taking part please speak to Mr Robilliard and Mrs Furness. Local heat due to take place early evening in week commencing Monday 27th January, hosted at Shebbear College.

Every year TAAC invite the community to take part in their annual Christmas run - 9 miles of mud, forest trails, rivers and hills of Torrington.
