Your things miss you too!

You may be surprised by the amount of lost property we acquire at school which we are unable to return because it isn’t labelled. We appreciate how expensive it is to replace school uniform, coats, bags and equipment so please follow our lost property procedures to claim any unnamed property.

We do have an area outside the Pupil Coaches office where unnamed items are kept for pupils to come and check but currently it is bursting to capacity with coats.

At the end of each full term, the contents will be emptied and disposed of at a local charity shop.

Top Tips

1. Ensure all items of uniform, coats bags and equipment are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

2. If your child loses anything during the school day, encourage them check the lost property store for the item and to revisit again the next day.

3. If you find lost property please hand it into the pupil coaches.

The Stage Awards

The winners were announced at a ceremony on January 25, 2019 and we are extremely proud that we were shortlisted for the 2019 awards in the School of the Year category sponsored by TodayTix.

The winning entry went to Open Door, London and the East Midlands area.

Speaking about the award ceremony, Mark Pluckrose said:

'Great Torrington School can be extremely pleased and proud to be shortlisted winner for the prestigious Stage Awards 2019.

It demonstrates that our students have the creative potential and opportunities here in school in north Devon.'

Rotary Youth Speaks at Shebbear College

We are delighted to announce that three of our young ladies won the Torrington Rotary Youth Speaks competition at Shebbear College on Wednesday 6th February. The intermediate team, competing in their first Youth Speaks competition, were excellent throughout with Frances Crocker giving an entertaining but thought provoking six minute speech on such a serious subject, ‘Bullying and Harassment for LGBTQ community within schools’. There was stiff competition from Holsworthy and Shebbear College in this age group and some superb topics and speeches.

I take my hat off to all the competitors who were brave enough to stand up in front of the judges and test themselves. I am very proud of them.

Their prize is a place at the North Devon & Bude round of the Rotary Youth Speaks, which takes place on Saturday 2nd March at Grosvenor Church, Barnstaple.  Mrs Leonard

DofE Student - Raising awareness of plastic

A young lady in year 9 as part of her Duke of Edinburgh volunteering section is taking part in regular beach cleans and is organising a quiz night at the Pier House, Westward Ho! On Thursday 7th March.
