Art and Design
"Creativity takes courage"
- Henri Matisse
Welcome to the Art and Design department at GTS.
A creative, colourful, vibrant, sometimes messy, sometimes quiet reflective space which fosters independent, creative learning
We offer a comprehensive KS3 curriculum and are a popular KS4 choice.
The department consists of 2 art teachers and a part time technician.
Differentiation from KS3 to KS4
KS3
Year 8
One lesson a fortnight throughout the year. Students will develop a range of skills focussing on the elements of art.
KS4
Year 9
Introduction to GCSE art and design.
Years 10
Development of coursework folder, students will build evidence in their portfolio working to the specification by AQA.
Year 11
Autumn term to complete coursework folder. Spring term will be the exam period which will conclude with a 10 hour exam.
Homework
KS3
Regular tasks are set to ensure that students can make progress in the subject.
KS4
There is an expectation that students will be independent learners and develop their work in depth and that this will be supported through homework tasks. In order to present an accomplished portfolio students need to be self-motivated and engaged with their progress
