History

"We are not makers of history, we are made of history"

- Martin Luther King Jnr

History at GTS covers a wide range of topics and periods ranging from Roman Britain to the War on Terror. Music, role play and art all contribute to lessons that have an emphasis, on promoting excellence. In recent years the department has achieved exam results that are significantly above the national average.

History lessons place an onus on pupil investigation and planning which have a variety of outcomes from written exam style answers to films such as, 'Little Bighorn'.

The department runs regular trips to important historical sites. In 2016 we visited the Imperial War Museum and the London Dungeons.

Pupils are given a grounding of British history and some areas of European and World History. A range of historical skills are undertaken and various methods of presenting work are explored. We aim to inspire the pupils and help them develop a love of history.
